Louth Playgoers – Investors In Education
Playgoers Award

Louth Playgoers has always invested in young people and this year the strong ties that bond us with education in the local community was officially recognised. On 27th March 2008, Chairman John Lill attended the Investors in Education Award Event which was held at Lincoln Drill Hall. The evening was organised by the Education Business Partnership of Lincolnshire and Rutland to mark the successful partnerships between local business and schools. On behalf of Playgoers, John accepted the handsome award and certificate, which was presented to celebrate Playgoers’ partnership with local schools through the work experience opportunities it offers to young people in the area.

The prestigious award was warmly received, but the work experience programme is not the only way in which Louth Playgoers welcomes young people to Riverhead Theatre. The enthusiasm to share in the joy of theatre has no age limit and is extended to even the very young. Playgoers’ Paintbox Theatre provides fertile ground for even more fertile imaginations, offering opportunities for children to express themselves and gain confidence, whilst having tremendous fun. When they reach the age of 11, many move on to Wharfingers’ Youth Theatre, where they will broaden and deepen their understanding, taking in every aspect of stage performance from lighting and sound to props and costume. From here, some are inspired to forge a career in the arts, but each and every one of them takes valuable experiences with them, irrespective of where they go and what they do in life.

There can be very few investment opportunities better than those which involve young people. As an Investor in Education, Playgoers is also investing in the future.

Amadeus - Playgoers' March Production
Amadeus March 2008

Wicked humour and psychological drama combine in this controversial, award-winning tale of intrigue, depravity…and musical genius.

Hapsburg court composer Salieri is tortured by the divine virtuosity of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. As Salieri’s own work is rapidly overshadowed by the musical brilliance of such an arrogant rival, he secretly vows to destroy the vulgar little composer, using a powerful concoction of betrayal, deception and sabotage.

Opulent 18th Century Austria and the magical strains of Mozart’s music provide the perfect backdrop for this delicious costume drama written by Peter Schaffer - a veritable sensory feast.

Tickets £6.70 adults, £4.75 juniors (theatre associates: £5.90 adults, £3.90 juniors)

Playgoers' December Production

If you fancy a really good laugh, book now for the Playgoers’ next production - “My Friend Miss Flint”, written by Donald Churchill and Peter Yeldham. This play runs from Monday 3rd – Saturday 8th December and promises to be just as entertaining as the successful November drama, J.B. Priestley’s “An Inspector Calls”.

Miss Flint? Who is she and more to the point, where is she? These are questions on TV gardening personality Tom Lambert’s lips - and he’s not the only one who wants to know. Knickers get hilariously twisted and untwisted in this rib tickling comedy about tax evasion. What? Yes, that's right, a comedy about tax evasion.

7 Point Plan
We are constantly looking for ways to maintain and develop our relationships with our existing customers, as well as attracting new audiences.

It is acknowledged that a strong marketing strategy is essential to the success of any business. Louth Playgoers have restructured their marketing subcommittee to meet the continuing challenge.

The Society's success was born out of the varied programme offered to its large supporting audience. We intend to stand by our long-standing supporters and bear in mind our roots, whilst still looking to the future and new audiences.

To encourage the use of the venue as a true community theatre we are welcoming groups and organisations to make use of our facilities, whether they be schools in need of professional staging, businesses for seminar or presentation space, or any other organisation in need of the facilities offered at the Riverhead Theatre.

Developing a strong programme of professional work is important. Louth Playgoers realise that this is an essential complement to the existing programme and are endeavouring to fill the void in professional live entertainment in the region.

To source and acquire funds and premises for the provision of rehearsal rooms and hireable space, essential to the smooth running of the Riverhead Theatre.

Investigation of the needs of the community for art-related work to be taken from the theatre to outside organisations and schools. We are justifiably proud of our achievement in the field of education and enjoy the vibrancy young people bring to the theatre on the frequent visits as participants in our education programme.
